MUSICAL THEATRE DAYS

14-23 September 10.00 – 14.30


Places are offered to Primary and Secondary Schools all over the North West. Workshops are suitable for ages 8-11 and 12-18

Activities include:
  • Musical Theatre workshop
    5 singers, a director & musical director. Arias from a musical, an operetta and two operas. Finding out ways in which young people can develop their interest in singing, how singers train to became opera singers. How to warm up the voice and body before a performance. Learn a chorus from an operetta or musical. See an excerpt from Clonter Opera's latest production and receive a short introduction to the composer (additional info about composer in teacher packs).

  • Set and Lighting Design workshop
    Make and light a scale 1:50 miniature set based on one of 5 themes. Work in groups of 5. - Awards are given best design & team work.

  • A Variety Show
    See a fully staged show on the Clonter Opera stage. See excerpts from musicals, operetta and a scene from Clonter Opera’s latest production. Join in a chorus learnt in the workshop and meet the singers after the show to receive an autographed programme.

PERFORMANCE PROJECTS
Jan/ Feb and May/June

Tailor made Performance Projects enable schools to write, design, compose and perform short musical pieces. Teachers attend an initial INSET session. This is followed by a day of workshops in school and culminates with a Performance Day at Clonter Opera Theatre where productions are performed and filmed.

There are optional evening performances for friends and family to attend.

Tickets for evening performances are £5.

NEW PLATFORM CONCERTS
Primary/secondary school choirs, wind bands and orchestras are invited to try out and develop their performance skills in a non competitive and supportive environment.

Concerts will be held on Thursday 25 February and Friday 25 June. Choir rehearsal takes place at 5pm and the concert starts at 6pm.
